The B² Study follows people from the very beginning of their Phoenix journey to understand how community, connection and life's experiences shape who we become over time. We're setting out to follow more than 1,000 people over three years, and we'd love for you to be part of it.

  • Have recently joined The Phoenix

  • Are within your first month of membership

  • Are 18 or older

Why only new members?

By inviting people who have recently joined The Phoenix, we can better understand what happens from the very start — and follow how things change over time.

What we’re trying to understand?

We know community matters. But there's still a great deal we don't fully understand.

What helps people build stronger, healthier, more connected lives? What gets in the way? And how do people's lives actually change over time — across multiple dimensions of life?

These are the questions B² is asking.

What’s involved?

Your time is valued

Completing surveys takes commitment — and we want to recognize that. As a thank you, participants receive a gift card at each survey point, increasing in value the longer you're with us. Participants who complete all seven surveys receive a total of $210 in gift cards over three years.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Belonging & Becoming Study is led by the in-house research teams at The Phoenix and NewForm, working alongside a lived experience advisory group and scientific advisors.

  • Yes. We're interested in people's experiences over time — whether you continue with The Phoenix or not, your participation remains valued.

  • Seven online surveys over three years.

  • Around 25–30 minutes.

  • Yes to both. Most questions are optional, and you can pause at any point. You can also withdraw at any time — this will never affect your Phoenix membership or your ability to take part in Phoenix activities.

  • Your responses are confidential and used only for research purposes. Before you decide whether to participate, you'll receive clear information about how your data is stored, protected, and used.

  • You'll receive gift cards for every survey you've already completed. Withdrawing never affects compensation you've already earned.

  • The study was founded with investment from The Phoenix and NewForm. As the study grows, we'll seek dedicated research funding to expand its reach and impact
