The Belonging and Becoming Study (B²) follows people from the very beginning of their Phoenix journey to understand how community, connection and life's experiences shape who we become over time. We're setting out to follow more than 1,000 people over three years, and we'd love for you to be part of it.
What we’re trying to understand?
We know community matters. But there's still a great deal we don't fully understand.
What helps people build stronger, healthier, more connected lives? What gets in the way? And how do people's lives actually change over time—across multiple dimensions of life?
These are the questions B² is asking.

Are in your first few months with The Phoenix
Are 18 or older
You don’t need to attend activities regularly or stay involved with The Phoenix to take part. We want to hear about your experiences, whatever your journey looks like.

Taking part is your choice. You can skip questions or leave the study at any time.
Your time is valued
As a thank-you for your time, you’ll receive gift cards as you complete study surveys—including up to $30 for the initial steps. Participants who complete all seven surveys receive up to $210 in gift cards over three years.

Yes. We're interested in people's experiences over time — whether you continue with The Phoenix or not, your participation remains valued.

Around 25–30 minutes.

Yes to both. Most questions are optional, and you can pause at any point. You can also withdraw at any time — this will never affect your Phoenix membership or your ability to take part in Phoenix activities.

Your responses are confidential and used only for research purposes. Before you decide whether to participate, you'll receive clear information about how your data is stored, protected, and used.

You'll receive gift cards for every survey you've already completed. Withdrawing never affects compensation you've already earned.
